119 km from Corinth city
204 km from Athens

Discover this beautiful Christian monastery in a peaceful, private & luxurious way!

Malevi - Monastery of Assumption

This tour is a visit to the Monastery of Malevis, which is one of the most famous monasteries in Arcadia, but also throughout Greece. The monastery is located on a hillside full of fir trees in Saint Peter's area. The first monastery was founded in 717 AD.

Malevi - Christian Οrthodox monastery

It is built in Parnonas, near the top of Malevou and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The reestablishment of the current monastery was made by the monk Joseph Karatzas. In the monastery there is a miraculous icon which is one of the 70 that are painted by Luke the Evangelist and since 1964 is welling Holy Myrrh.

The icon was brought by residents of Mount Athos to the first monastery in the Canal. Following the tragic end of the monks who died due to the extreme cold and the roaring winds, it was left alone and came to the place it is today. It repeatedly was found in some local bushes, and was constantely found illumined by a divine light. Three attempts were made to move the Icon to no avail, so a church was built at that location in 1116, and in the year 1362 the silver covering was added to the Icon.

We will remain there 2 hours to visit the monastery, watch the Holy Mass (monitoring of the Holy Mass if possible) and enjoy a coffee or a meal.

Please notice that there is a dress code for visits to the monasteries, ladies are required to wear skirts and gentlemen need to be in long trousers.
